Trust & safety
Stay safe when buying, selling or swapping
We moderate reports and verify email addresses. We don't inspect vehicles or verify ownership \u2014 so here's how to protect yourself.
Before you agree anything
- Run a vehicle history check for outstanding finance, insurance write-offs and theft markers.
- Check the V5C logbook: the name and address should match the seller, and the VIN, registration and colour should match the vehicle.
- Check MOT history on the official GOV.UK service.
Warning signs
- Requests for a deposit before you've seen the vehicle
- Pressure to decide quickly, or to move off MotorCircle messaging
- Unusual cash arrangements or payment via gift cards or crypto
- A price that seems far below similar adverts with a reason you can't verify
- A seller who can't meet at the address on the V5C
Viewing and test drives
- Meet in daylight at a sensible location — ideally the registered keeper's address.
- Make sure you're insured before driving any vehicle.
- Check the vehicle is taxed and has a valid MOT where required before driving on public roads.
- Count the keys and check the service history documents.
