Finance, theft, documents and inspection: what to look at before you hand over keys.

- Run a vehicle history check for outstanding finance, write-offs and theft markers.
- Check the V5C logbook matches the seller and the vehicle (VIN, registration, colour).
- Check MOT history on the official GOV.UK service.
- Inspect the vehicle in daylight and test drive with valid insurance.
- Never pay a deposit before seeing a vehicle in person.
- Be cautious of unusual cash requests or pressure to rush.
